Basic characteristics and environmental impact of iron ore tailings

Introduction: In our study, various test methods were adopted to explore the mineralogical characteristics, grindability, particle morphology, size distribution, and environmental leaching toxicity of iron ore tailings (lOTs). Methods: The include petrographic analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electronic microscopy (SEM), synchronous thermal analyzer (DSC-TGA), electron probe microanalyser (EPMA), synthetic precipitation Procedure (SPLP). Results: results show that used IOTs contained 14.54% which was mainly stored in magnetite pyrite. content silicate accounted for 11.82% total content. Most it existed minerals, including grunerite hornblende. A small amount biotite, chlorite augite. Besides, grindability lOTs much better than granulated blast furnace slag (GBFS). After grinding 140 min, mass fraction particles with less 5 um 44.19%. These could be fill voids cement-powder-packed structure. also a large number submicron nanoscale particles. Discussion: With great strength friendliness, composite cementitious material (CCM) prepared from can well applied building field remediation.
